Introduction

Throughout the world, the Internet has had a far-reaching effect on human interactions, and has become an endless source of information, communication, and entertainment. According to “Freedom Magazine”, an average of three to six million-computer users join the Internet monthly. An ordinary day consists of nearly four hours of Internet use, while exposing the general public to a multitude of conveniences. Unfortunately, individuals who frequently use the Internet have become vulnerable to a series of fraudulent activities such as credit card scams, theft of computer files and mail, infringe in copyrighted works, and even traffic in child pornography. The Internet has also negatively impacted adolescents socially and even mentally. On the other hand, the Internet is a useful piece of technology, as it states, “to exchange information, receive and send electronic mail, transfer files, conduct business, obtain computer news…shop for clothes..." (Mason). Online technology has facilitated work practices for school aged children as well as for the average business man. The Internet, with its negatives and positives, has significantly shaped the younger generation. It is evident of its influence as 86% of adolescents ranging from ages 8 to 18 have a computer in their home. The Internet has played a key role in the development of teenagers, and has defined the way these individuals interact.
